Square Palm Jaggery (Karupatti) is a 100% pure, unrefined traditional sweetener made from Palmyra palm sap, set into convenient square blocks. No chemicals, no bleaching — just palm sap, naturally moulded the traditional way.
What It Is
Square Palm Jaggery, known as Karupatti in Tamil, is a traditional unrefined sweetener made from the sap of the Palmyra palm tree (Borassus flabellifer), set into square blocks for easy portioning.

How It Is Made
Palm sap is collected from the Palmyra tree, gently heated, and poured into square moulds — without any chemical processing, bleaching, or artificial additives. The square shape allows for easy breaking and precise portioning.
Nutrition
Contains iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium — minerals naturally present in palm sap. Has a lower glycaemic index (~41) compared to refined white sugar.
Culinary Uses
Used in traditional Tamil sweets such as Karupatti Halwa, Karupatti Pongal, Karupatti Coffee, and Karupatti Panakam. The square block format is convenient for measuring portions in recipes. Also used as a natural sweetener in herbal teas, payasam, and rice-based desserts.
How to Use
Dissolve one square block in warm water or milk before adding to recipes. Use in a 1:1 ratio as a substitute for refined sugar in most recipes. Each square can be broken further for smaller quantities.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Keep away from moisture and direct sunlight to prevent melting. Consume within 6 months of opening.
